Tucked away in the Bluff Park district of Long Beach, Somatic Good Fortune is an eclectic piercing parlor, established in 1993 that offers fine jewelry, cosmetic tattooing & art exhibition(s).
The past few months or so, they have displayed a collection composed by Hunter Freese, an LB native. Grown and raised here, he sought out location to display and sell his pieces.
Upon visiting, I had noticed little red dot stickers near practically all of the work. These dots meant "sold" and were ready to be taken home by purchasers on the closing ceremony, December 3rd, 2017.
This collection, called "Better than Before" are drawings on Bristol paper using Micron Pens and very little colors. Often times any work that has color throughout was composed using Illustrator.
Freese creates whimsical and charming drawings, displaying simple concepts that you would never see in reality. For example, a llama smoking a cigarette. In his fun animal drawings, each one comes matted, framed, and signed starting with a price point of $250 or so, almost all his 5 x 7 prints are practically sold.
Somatic Good Fortune is open selected days of the week from 12-7:30p and admission to stop in and look around in totally free. Also no, you don't have to pay to park! An awesome shop to get a piercing or any exotic body jewelry of good quality. Check it out!
