I have recently visited the Museum of Latin America Art in Long Beach, California. Fortunately, i live only a few blocks away from the Museum. I personally love to visit this museum because it reminds me of my culture and latin roots. This museum inspires me to make art which reflects my Latin American roots, so that the world can see a bit of my culture. The Museum is not the biggest museum, or the most popular museum, but it is home to beautiful pieces of work that have the power to place you in Latin America.
I encountered many beautiful pieces of work, however i only saw about two or three prints. I came across a beautiful well executed wood-cut stencil and graphite piece printed on archival paper by Osmeivy Ortega. The print is clearly a woodcut stencil and is at least about a four foot long wood-cut stencil. It is a beautiful print of a dear head and a ball of rope that is attached to the dears antlers. The background consist of birds drawn in a form, which makes it look like a pattern. It is very difficult to try and understand what the artist was trying to convey, but it is very interesting and created with precision.
I loved and appreciated the print more and more the longer I looked at it. i came to believe that the print is a reflection of the control mankind has over nature. I believe this because the antlers are tied by a man made rope. The print has interesting subject matter and what makes it that much more interesting is the fact that it was made in Cuba in 1980. The print is amazing and a very string print that is well balanced and visually intriguing.
